Black Bass Fishing in Boston's Waters

While many think of saltwater when fishing out of Boston, our inland waters hold fantastic populations of black bass. Largemouth bass prefer warmer, slower-moving waters with plenty of structure, while smallmouth bass often inhabit cooler, clearer rivers and lakes with rocky bottoms. Both species are aggressive predators and provide a fantastic fight on fly or light tackle. We can target them with poppers and streamers in the warmer months, and switch to subsurface flies or finesse presentations as the water cools. It’s a great way to experience a different kind of fishing close to the city.
