Fishing Guide in Chatham
The Charles River running through Somerville puts you on prime Striped Bass water with the convenience of launching close to the city.
Fishing Chatham
Fishing out of Somerville means you're working the Charles River, particularly the lower stretches where it widets toward the mouth entering Boston Harbor. This is estuary fishing - strong tidal current, mixing fresh and salt water, and bass that stage here during their migration. The fish aren't here year-round, but when they show up in spring and again in fall, they feed aggressively. The Charles River has good structure too - the docks, the seawalls, the pylons - all hold fish at certain tide stages. Summer bluefish push up into the harbor and can be found working the same general area. Somerville doesn't give you ocean access directly, so tuna trips would require running south to the deeper water, but for our target species of bass and bluefish, the Charles River and harbor system is incredibly productive. The key is reading the tide and the bait activity, which is what I focus on for every trip.
