Fishing Guide in Chatham
Chatham sits at the elbow of Cape Cod where strong tides, structured shorelines, and open ocean access create some of the most dynamic fishing on the East Coast. I guide anglers here because the water changes character every few hours, and the fish respond.
Fishing Chatham
The waters around Chatham are defined by movement. Pleasant Bay on the inside offers protected flats and channels where striped bass hunt in the shallows, especially during moving tides. Step outside to the backside beaches and bars near Monomoy, and you're fishing rips and drop-offs where false albacore and bluefish blitz bait in late summer and fall. The tidal exchange here is aggressive, and that constant flow keeps baitfish concentrated and predators active. I fish both fly and light tackle depending on conditions, and we adjust our approach based on wind, tide, and what the fish are doing that day.
Spring brings the first striped bass into the estuaries and along the beaches as water temps climb into the mid-50s. By June, the bite is wide open with bass feeding heavily in the shallows and along structure. Summer heats up with bluefish moving in, and by late August the false albacore arrive in force, often mixing with bonito in the rips. Fall is peak season—September and October see aggressive feeding as everything fattens up before the migration south. Black bass fishing happens in the quieter freshwater ponds inland when saltwater conditions get tough, though most of my Chatham trips focus on the tidal and nearshore opportunities.
A typical charter out of Chatham means reading the water and staying mobile. We might start on a flat in Pleasant Bay at first light, then run outside to intercept albies crashing bait on a dropping tide. The fishing here rewards attention to detail—matching the hatch, placing casts tight to structure, and understanding how these fish use current. It's technical, physical fishing, and when it comes together, there's nothing quite like it on the Cape.
