Westport provides access to a diverse fishing environment, where coastal waters and estuaries meet. The Westport River and the surrounding salt marshes are prime locations for striped bass and bluefish, particularly during their migratory runs and throughout the summer. We often find these species feeding aggressively in the shallows and around structure. Venturing slightly offshore from Westport opens up opportunities for black sea bass on the reefs and potentially tuna when they are in the area.
The spring and fall are excellent for striped bass, with significant numbers of fish often passing through. Bluefish are a common summer and early fall catch, providing exciting, fast-paced action. Black sea bass fishing is typically best from late spring through the fall on the nearshore structure. Depending on the season, we might also encounter false albacore and Atlantic bonito, which can lead to thrilling surface action.
