Fishing Guide in Westport
Westport gives us access to some of the most productive striper water in southern New England, with strong tidal flows, rocky structure, and open ocean runs that bring tuna and false albacore right to our doorstep.
Fishing Westport
Westport sits where the Westport River meets Buzzards Bay, and that mix of estuary and open water creates incredible fishing. We launch out of Westport and work the river mouth, the rocky points along the western shore of the bay, and when conditions allow, we push offshore for tuna. The tidal rips here concentrate bait, and striped bass stack up on the structure from late spring through fall. Bluefish move through in waves during summer, and false albacore show up in September and October, often blitzing bait right on the surface.
I guide trips here year-round, but the heart of the season runs May through November. Spring brings pre-spawn stripers and hungry post-winter fish cruising the shallows. Summer heats up with bluefish and schoolie bass, and we start seeing tuna within range by mid-summer if the bait is thick. Fall is my favorite time in Westport—big stripers feed heavily before their migration, and the false albacore fishing can be absolutely electric. We fish with fly rods when the conditions are right, and I'll put you on fish whether you're casting to breaking fish or working structure.
A charter out of Westport means variety. We might start the morning working a rip for stripers, move to a rocky point for bluefish, and finish with a shot at false albacore if we see birds working. The water here changes fast with the tide, and reading it is half the game. I keep my groups small so everyone gets time on the rod, and I'll adjust our approach based on what's biting and what you want to target.
